Ring Sizing Guide: How to Find Your Perfect Ring Size
Why Ring Size Matters
A ring that fits well is comfortable to wear all day and secure enough that you won't lose it. Too tight and it cuts off circulation; too loose and it slips off. Getting your size right before you buy — especially for a fine gold piece — saves you the hassle of resizing later.
At Queen of Gemz, our rings collection spans everything from bold statement rings to delicate pearl rings and coin-inspired coin rings — all crafted in 10K, 14K, and 18K gold. Here's how to make sure yours fits perfectly.
Method 1: The String or Paper Strip Method
This is the most accurate at-home method and requires nothing more than a strip of paper, a pen, and a ruler.
- Cut a thin strip of paper about ½ inch wide and 4 inches long.
- Wrap it snugly around the base of the finger you plan to wear the ring on. It should be snug but not tight — you want to be able to slide it off.
- Mark where the paper overlaps with a pen.
- Lay the strip flat and measure the length in millimeters from the end to your mark.
- Use the chart below to find your ring size.
US Ring Size Chart
| Circumference (mm) | US Ring Size | Diameter (mm) |
|---|---|---|
| 44.2 | 3 | 14.1 |
| 46.8 | 4 | 14.9 |
| 49.3 | 5 | 15.7 |
| 51.9 | 6 | 16.5 |
| 54.4 | 7 | 17.3 |
| 56.9 | 8 | 18.1 |
| 59.5 | 9 | 18.9 |
| 62.1 | 10 | 19.8 |
| 64.6 | 11 | 20.6 |
| 67.2 | 12 | 21.4 |
Method 2: Measure an Existing Ring
If you already own a ring that fits the correct finger, this is the fastest method.
- Place the ring on a flat surface.
- Measure the inside diameter (the distance across the inside of the ring) in millimeters using a ruler.
- Match that measurement to the diameter column in the chart above.
Pro tip: Measure the inside of the band, not the outside. Even a 1mm difference can mean a full size up or down.
Method 3: Visit a Local Jeweler
For the most precise measurement — especially for wider bands, which typically require sizing up by half a size — visit a local jeweler and ask for a ring sizer. It takes less than a minute and is always free.
Tips for Getting the Best Fit
- Time of day matters. Fingers are slightly larger in the evening and in warm weather. Measure mid-day for the most average reading.
- Dominant hand runs larger. Your dominant hand's fingers are typically a half size larger than your non-dominant hand.
- Wide bands fit tighter. If you're shopping for a band wider than 6mm, size up by half a size.
- Knuckle size. If your knuckle is significantly larger than the base of your finger, size to your knuckle and consider a sizing insert to keep the ring from spinning.
What If Your Ring Doesn't Fit?
Most gold rings can be resized by a professional jeweler. However, rings with stones set all the way around (eternity bands) or intricate engraving may be difficult or impossible to resize without affecting the design. When in doubt, size up — it's easier to size down than up.
